Overview

Sobaeksan Mountain was designated as the 18th national park of Korea. Ever since, it has grown in reputation as a spiritual mountain and a sacred mountain of the Yeongnam region.

Its main peak, Birobong (1,439m), is connected to other notable peaks in the Sobaeksan Mountain Range, including Gugmangbong Peak (1,421m), Yeonhwabong Peak (1,394m), and Dosolbong Peak (1,315m). Roughly halfway up Sobaeksan Mountain are Huibangsa Temple and Birosa Temple, which date back to the Silla period. At the entrance of Huibangsa Temple, Huibang Waterfalls (28m) welcomes visitors all year round with its cool and refreshing waters.

In May every year, a massive colony of Royal Azalea blossoms, and the Oak tree forest that creates a beautiful tunnel, add a lively touch to the Mountain’s scenery. Birobong Peak is often called the “Korean Alps” as it remains covered in white snow for six months of the year.
