Overview

Yeongju is the center of Seonbi (scholastic) culture, which revered learning and courtesy since ancient times. Sunheung, where Seonbi Village was built, is also the home of An Hyang (pen name: Hoeheon), Korea's first Neo-Confucian scholar.

Yeongju restored the living spaces that were actually used by the people who lived there centuries ago to build Seonbi Village. It was designed to help people understand the spirit and approach to life Confucian scholars used to have, which could still be worth learning today. Overall, Seonbi Village mimics a traditional village community so that visitors can immerse themselves in the life scholars and people would have enjoyed in Yeonju during the Joseon Dynasty period. Moreover, the Village features various furniture and living objects that were used by different classes of people who lived at each house, and it also has venues for direct and indirect experience programs provided to offer a glimpse into the life and spirit of traditional scholars.
